BBCC delegation meets High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh

Ajit Singh expressed his appreciation for BBCC’s efforts to strengthen business, trade, and social relations between the Bangladeshi and Canadian communities

A five-member delegation from the Bangladesh Business Chamber of Canada (BBCC), led by its President Alamgir M. Rahman, paid a courtesy call and held a meeting with Ajit Singh, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, at the Canadian High Commission in Dhaka.

The meeting, which lasted for about an hour, was held in a warm and productive atmosphere. It served as an opportunity for the BBCC delegation to brief the High Commissioner on the Chamber's background, objectives, achievements, and future plans, as well as its expectations for enhanced cooperation with the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh.

Ajit Singh expressed his appreciation for BBCC's efforts to strengthen business, trade, and social relations between the Bangladeshi and Canadian communities. Although he had previously been introduced to BBCC's activities during the delegation's earlier meeting with the Trade Commissioners on October 26, he showed keen interest in learning more about the organization's initiatives directly. The High Commissioner commended BBCC's mission and encouraged regular communication, updates, and future collaboration, particularly during BBCC's visits to Bangladesh.

During the meeting, discussions focused on several key areas of cooperation, including bilateral trade and investment, talent development, and sustainable business practices. Both sides emphasized the need to expand market access for Bangladeshi products in Canada and promote Canadian exports such as pulses, wheat, and canola oil to Bangladesh. They also discussed opportunities for collaboration in education, vocational training, and professional skill development — an area in which the High Commission expressed particular interest.

The High Commission also encouraged BBCC to strengthen engagement with CanCham (Canada–Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and explore joint initiatives of mutual interest. Additionally, the High Commissioner welcomed BBCC's plan to organize a Business Summit in Canada, while advising that it should be approached with sufficient preparation, given the scale of such an event.

The meeting also covered visa-related matters, with the High Commission advising that visitors and students should apply for Canadian visas at least three to four months in advance, as regulations have recently become more stringent.

The BBCC delegation described the meeting as extremely positive and encouraging. Both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining regular dialogue and working closely to deepen trade, investment, and development cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada.
