Harpic Bangladesh marks World Toilet Day 2025
Harpic Bangladesh observed World Toilet Day 2025 with an event at Lakeshore Heights in Dhaka on November 20.
The programme highlighted the importance of safe sanitation and honoured the contributions of sanitation workers.
Academicians, experts and representatives from government, non-government and private organisations joined the discussion on the country's sanitation challenges and priorities.
The event opened with a keynote speech by Dr Abdullah Al-Muyeed PhD on "World Toilet Day and Sanitation Workers." He spoke about the vital role of sanitation workers in protecting public health and outlined key sector challenges and practical solutions. He said a toilet is not just a fixture but "the sanctuary of sanitation and hygiene."
A panel discussion followed with Commodore ABM Shamsul Alam, Commodore Md Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, Fazlul Hoque, Arian Arif and Sabrin Maruf Tinni. The session was moderated by Md Rakib Uddin. Speakers stressed that collaboration between public and private sectors is essential to ensure safe and hygienic sanitation for all.
The programme featured the unveiling of three new chapters of Harpic's comic book "Dipu–Tushi's Hygiene Adventures." Harpic also released a cartoon series to teach children about hygiene in an engaging way.
Harpic Bangladesh and SAJIDA Foundation announced plans to support an additional 2,000 sanitation workers and their families in partnership with the city corporations.
The event concluded with an overview of Harpic's activities over the past year. The brand reaffirmed its commitment to improving sanitation standards nationwide.
Sabrin Maruf Tinni said, "World Toilet Day reminds us that sanitation is a fundamental human right. World Toilet Day is observed every year on November 19 and aligns with the UN goal of ensuring access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all by 2030.
