Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam picked up two wickets in two overs to Afghanistan batters Afsar Zazai and Bahir Shah in the 19th and 21th over of the innings respectively in the first session on day four of the only Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National on Saturday.

Bangladesh pacer Ebadot Hossain struck in the third over of the day to remove Afghanistan batter Nasir Jamal to leave Afghanistan on 56 for three in the morning session on day four of the only Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday. 

Najmul Hossain Shanto struck his second ton inside three days, picking up his fourth Test ton and in the process becoming just the second Bangladeshi score centuries in both innings of a Test match. Shanto achieved the feat with Mominul Haque batting at the other end, the batter who was first to record the feat for the Tigers. Their lean patches may have certain similarities, but for Shanto it was all about delivering after a show of faith and letting his bat do the talking for him.

Afghanistan managed to keep away any further damage on day three of the one-off Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday after losing two wickets in the final session of the day followed by the loss of skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, who walked off retired hurt after getting hit by a bouncer on his helmet.

Since receiving Test status in 2017, Afghanistan have only played just six Tests in the last six years, winning three, including a 224-run win against Bangladesh in Chattogram in 2019. Interestingly, the one-off Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from today will be Hashmatullah Shahidi and Co.'s first Test in over two years.

The selection of five pacers in the Bangladesh squad was a major talking point ahead of the one-off Test against Afghanistan, slated to begin today at Dhaka. Inevitably, even a day ahead of the match, discussions surrounded the greenish pitch. However, conditions can change pretty fast in Mirpur, but above all else the Tigers were looking for good Test match conditions in order to grow.

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal will not be featuring in the Tigers' one-off Test against Afghanistan, starting on Wednesday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, owing to a back issue. 

As members of the Bangladesh Test squad checked into the team hotel and enjoyed a rest day ahead of the upcoming one-off Test series against Afghanistan yesterday, their opponents landed in the country divided into two groups.

Afghanistan team arrived in the country on Saturday morning for their one-off Test against Bangladesh, starting from June 14 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
