The Directorate Of Posts has called for public feedback on a newly drafted Postal Ordinance 2025, marking the first major remodeling of its governing framework since the colonial-era Postal Act of 1898.

The Directorate Of Posts has called for public feedback on a newly drafted Postal Ordinance 2025, marking the first major remodeling of its governing framework since the colonial-era Postal Act of 1898.

The draft ordinance, now open for stakeholder review, introduces wide-ranging updates that address modern postal and communication needs. These include provisions on postal life insurance, savings banks, courier service regulation, consumer protection, interoperability, and personal data privacy. It also clarifies the department's mandate as a designated national postal operator in line with international standards.

Members of the public, institutions, and industry stakeholders have been invited to share their opinions and suggestions by email at dg@bdpost.gov.bd.

The initiative reflects a decade-long effort by the Bangladesh Postal Department to modernise its legal structure and publish a law in Bengali that aligns with contemporary communication and digital service frameworks.

For more than a century, the country's postal operations have remained under the outdated law, even as Bangladesh's communication and governance systems have undergone significant transformation.

If enacted, the new ordinance would replace one of the oldest operational laws in the country's public service history.
