Japan Embassy hosts exhibition by artist Firoz Mahmud
The Embassy of Japan is going to host an exhibition titled "Multi Layered Legacies" by artist Firoz Mahmud.
Ambassador SAIDA Shinich will attend as chief guest. The event is organised in collaboration with Paper Rhyme Advertising Limited as part of its 20th anniversary.
Firoz Mahmud is a New York-based multidisciplinary artist who works across several media. He has taken part in major international exhibitions, including the Bangkok Art Biennale, Congo Biennale, Lahore Biennial, Dhaka Art Summit, Setouchi Triennale, Aichi Triennial, Sharjah Biennale, Cairo Biennale, Echigo-Tsumari Triennial, and the Asian Biennale.
His awards include honours from the Asian Art Council in New York, the COAL Prize nomination in Paris, the Queens Council on the Arts, the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize. He also received the Dilnasheen Khanom Gold Medal and the Shilpacharya Zainul Gold Medal in Dhaka, along with grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation in Canada.
Firoz studied at Dhaka University, Tama Art University, and Tokyo University of the Arts, and completed postgraduate work at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. He has also worked with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. He is represented by Ota Fine Arts. Paper Rhyme Advertising has collaborated with him for more than 20 years.
