The Jagannath University unit of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front has demanded that the Jagannath University Central Students' Union (JnUCSU) and hall union elections be held in the first half of December.

The demand was made at a press conference held in front of the vice-chancellor's office this afternoon.

Yesterday, the Election Commission announced that the JnUCSU and hall union elections will be held on December 22.

In a written statement, the organisation's JnU unit vice-president Khadijatul Kubra expressed concern over the announced election schedule, saying it reflected the administration's apathy toward ensuring a participatory poll.

"Holding the election on December 22 will be nothing short of a farce. By that time, most students will have returned to their homes after completing their academic activities for the year. Moreover, the country might face political unrest later in December. Scheduling the JnUCSU polls during such a period seems aimed at limiting voter participation," she said.

Kubra urged the administration to reconsider the schedule and reschedule the elections for the first half of December to ensure broader participation.

She also called for all examinations to be postponed during the election period to maintain a fair and democratic environment for voters and candidates alike.

The organisation's JnU unit president, Ivan Tahseeb, said, "To ensure maximum student participation, we demand the election be held earlier in December and all classes and exams be postponed at least a week before the polling."
