A new telefilm titled "Joltungi" brings to the screen a story of how subtle social prejudices can fracture a family—and how understanding and empathy can begin to repair that damage. Written by Afrin Jessika and directed by Rahim Sumon, the project features performances by Naznin Hasan, Dilara Zaman, Hamidur Rahman, Eishika Sakin, Abhi Pramanik, Imamur Rashid Khan Ratan Siddiqui and several others.

The narrative centres on Joya, a confident and outspoken woman whose domestic life with husband Asif and daughter Tusi is stable until casual remarks from relatives and acquaintances begin to undermine her dignity. What starts as offhand teasing gradually shapes attitudes within the household, creating distance between Joya and Asif. The growing emotional divide eventually leads to a separation—leaving their daughter Tusi to navigate adolescence without her mother's presence.

Director Rahim Sumon says the telefilm addresses "the quiet forms of discrimination that often go unchallenged in everyday life." His hope, he adds, is that audiences will reflect on how easily these attitudes take root, and how meaningful it is when individuals choose to resist them. The project is expected to air soon on a national television channel.

Produced under the Anindya banner, "Joltungi" was filmed across various Dhaka locations. The telefilm continues Sumon's body of work, which includes titles such as "Bongshaopradip", "Ekaki", "Priyo Phoo Tumi", "Godhuli'r Alo", "Mamla Matin", "Nirobe Cheyechi Tomay", "Khoma", "Shankha", "Subconscious", "Chhaya Hoye Theko", and "Elomelo Batash".
