Motijheel-Shahbagh metro rail service resumes

Metro rail services on the Motijheel-Shahbagh section resumed after nearly seven hours' suspension following the death of a pedestrian, who was struck by a bearing pad that fell from a station in Dhaka's Farmgate area earlier today.

The operation of this section resumed around 7:15pm, according to a message sent by Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, public relations officer of MRT Line-6.

Earlier, the rail services on the Uttara–Agargaon section resumed around 3:00pm.

Around 12:30pm, a pedestrian, Abul Kalam Azad, 35, died when a bearing pad of metro rail station fell on him in Dhaka's Farmgate area. Azad, a travel agency employee originally from Shariatpur, lived in Narayanganj with his family.

Two people were also injured in the incident.

As a safety measure, metro rail services were suspended since the incident.

However, resumption of services on the Shahbagh-Agargaon section is unlikely today, Iftikhar Hossain, general manager (operation) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said.
