Towel touch turns brilliant catch into six for Litton
Bangladesh captain Litton Das survived in one of the strangest ways possible during the second T20I against Ireland in Chattogram today.
On 27, Litton pulled a short ball from Josh Little toward deep midwicket while his side were 88-2 in the 11th over while chasing 171.
Gareth Delany ran in from the boundary and took a sharp one-handed catch right on the edge of the rope. As he landed, he fell backward and instinctively lifted his hand to keep the ball from touching the boundary cushion. His body stayed clear of the rope as he pushed himself back up using the ground and the edge of the cushion.
However, there was one problem: a towel tucked into Delany's waistband brushed the boundary cushion while he still had the ball in hand. Because of that, the catch was ruled invalid.
What looked like a brilliant piece of fielding ended up going for six instead. Delany was visibly frustrated, knowing he had done almost everything right. Litton remained not out, and Bangladesh benefited from a rare technicality that turned a potential wicket into six runs.
