Month-long Jatra performance festival begins in December
The festival, running from December 1 to 31, will feature daily performances at 6:30 pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall. Jatra troupes from various parts of Bangladesh have registered to participate in the event.

The stories we carry: IUTPS brings ‘Break The Circle: Season XII’
On November 27, The Islamic University of Technology Photographic Society (IUTPS) inaugurated “Break The Circle: Season XII” at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s Art Gallery 6, unveiling one of its most ambitious international showcases to date. The exhibition features 50 single photographs and seven photo stories selected from 7,832 submissions by judges Syed Latif Hossain, Suborna Morsheada and Sarker Protick.

Marking the 76th birth anniversary of theatre luminary Selim Al Deen, theatre troupe Swapnadal is organising a two-day festival titled “Natyacharya Selim Al Deen Janmotsab 2025”. The festival, held under the slogan “Selim Al Deen—Rabindranath lives in our art, the triumph of Bangla theatre is eternal”, begins today, at Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and will conclude tomorrow.

Theatre ULAB honours July martyrs with Brecht’s ‘Señora Carrar's Rifles’ adaptation
Theatre ULAB, in collaboration with Bodhi Natya, is bringing Bertolt Brecht’s “Señora Carrar's Rifles” to the Experimental Theatre Hall at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Presented in Sukhamay Bose’s Bengali translation, the production is conceptualised and directed by Sarwar Jahan Upol, with production supervision by Munatasir Mamun of Theatre ULAB.

Swapnadal to mark Hiroshima Day 2025 with ‘Tringsha Shatabdee’

Rickshaw Rally returns with graffiti tribute to July uprising
The rally will begin at 3pm from the Shilpakala Academy and parade through Moghbazar, Hatirjheel, and Madhubagh, before looping back to its starting point. Each rickshaw will be colourfully decked with custom T-shirts, caps, flag bands, placards, and original graffiti art—transforming the streets of Dhaka into a moving exhibition of protest and pride.

Philosophical drama ‘Socrates er Jobanbondi’ to be staged at Shilpakala today
At the heart of the play is the tragic trial of the Greek philosopher Socrates, whose unwavering pursuit of truth and reason led to a death sentence handed down by 501 jurors in ancient Athens. Accused of corrupting the youth and rejecting the state-sanctioned gods, Socrates could have chosen exile or even escaped. 4th Bangladesh Short & Documentary Film Festival to kick off this week
The festival received an overwhelming response, with 322 film submissions from across the country. After careful consideration by the selection committee, 89 films were chosen for screening—60 fictional shorts and 29 documentaries.
