Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials Jalal Yunus and Gazi Ashraf Lipu were not keen on entertaining skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto’s accusations that substandard pitches at home had primarily contributed to the Tigers' dismal performance in Twenty20 Internationals.

Bangladesh Cricket Board revealed the official jersey that the Tigers will don in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies in a Facebook post on Monday.

“To tell you the truth, I don’t want to see anything beside my name. I want results for my team. It’s a team game. I will obviously try my best for my team. I want my team to play the semifinal at the very least,” Hridoy said in the video. 

More than a year into his contract, Hathurusingha got to see both sides of the coin. In 2023, Bangladesh whitewashed defending champions England, and Afghanistan won a series against Ireland at home and claimed their maiden T20I win over New Zealand in the BlackCaps’ backyard. But less than a year since enjoying their best ever run in the shortest format, the Tigers spiralled down to their lowest point, displaying a severe lack of continuity.

Pacer Taskin Ahmed’s injury had been a big talking point ahead of the announcement of Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup squad. Speculations grew before he was eventually included but there were doubts regarding his availability for Bangladesh’s initial games.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto had blamed the wickets back home during the Zimbabwe series for their disastrous five-wicket loss in the first of the three T20Is against USA on Tuesday. BCB director and chairman of BCB’s HP unit Naimur Rahman Durjoy however rejected the idea that wickets were to blame.

What appeared to be quite unlikely at one point, due to a packed domestic schedule, is now becoming a reality.

The match will begin at 9:00 pm Bangladesh time and fans from Bangladesh can watch the match live on Nagorik TV and on Tofee app.

The 25 members of the HP squad will report at the BCB today. The training camp in Dhaka will kick off tomorrow and come to a conclusion on June 14.

Of the nine teams that have managed to play all the editions of the T20 World Cup since its inauguration in 2007 (Bangladesh, West Indies, India, Australia, England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and South Africa), the Tigers are the only side to have never qualified for the semifinal of the tournament.  

Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha heaped praises on the Tigers’ chosen 15 who will represent the country in the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. 

Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan signed for LA Knight Riders for the upcoming season of the Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA, starting on July 5.

Despite his injury status, pacer Taskin Ahmed found himself part of the 15-member World Cup squad but also with the vice-captaincy role.

Bangladesh’s chairman of the selection committee Gazi Ashraf Lipu said star bowler Taskin Ahmed’s inclusion in the 15-member T20 World Cup squad was based on his tentative recovery ‘at some point’ in the major tournament.

The Bangladesh team will be leaving for the USA on Wednesday. The Tigers will play a three-match T20 series against the USA starting on May 21 before beginning their T20 World Cup campaign.
