Over 6 million shopping-related phishing attempts detected in 2025: report

Cybercriminals attempted more than six million shopping-related phishing attacks in 2025, according to new figures from Kaspersky, which warn that online consumers remain a primary target during major retail events and seasonal promotions.

Cybercriminals attempted more than six million shopping-related phishing attacks in 2025, according to new figures from Kaspersky, which warn that online consumers remain a primary target during major retail events and seasonal promotions.

According to a press release, data from the company's Kaspersky Security Network shows that between January and October it blocked more than 6.394,854 phishing attempts impersonating online shops, banks and payment systems. Nearly half of those were aimed at online shoppers. 

Kaspersky also identified more than 20 million attempted attacks on gaming platforms, including 18.56 million abusing Discord. 

As per a press release, the company recorded more than 801,148 phishing attempts themed around Netflix and more than 576,873 linked to Spotify this year. Similar tactics extended into gaming ecosystems, with more than two million phishing attempts detected on platforms including Steam, PlayStation and Xbox.
