Shikho and Walpad launch EduTab learning tablet in Bangladesh
Edtech company Shikho has partnered with Walton's tablet brand Walpad to launch EduTab, a learning-focused device they say is designed around local students' study habits and teaching practices.
EduTab functions as a standard Android tablet with access to the app store, but comes pre-loaded with Shikho's hyper-localised learning platform. According to the companies, the device places animated video lessons, exam practice tools, interactive live classes and AI-based support at the centre of the experience, reflecting the needs of students following the national curriculum.
The partners say EduTab is intended in part to address concerns among parents and teachers that tablets can be more of a distraction than a study aid. Rather than restricting use, the device is structured to make academic content the most prominent and easily accessible option, positioning it as a regular study companion.
Shikho and Walpad compare the approach to international initiatives such as Japan's GIGA School programme, which aligns hardware, software and teaching practice. EduTab is sold directly to consumers and is positioned as an affordable option for students at home, in coaching centres or in classrooms, with the companies presenting it as a step towards building education technology tailored within Bangladesh rather than relying on generic imports.
