Police arrested two persons linked to the Awami League and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League for participating in an unauthorised torch procession in Fatikchhari upazila, Chattogram.

Police arrested two persons linked to the Awami League and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League for participating in an unauthorised torch procession in Fatikchhari upazila, Chattogram.

According to police, they were identified as Md Ershad, 42, and Rahamat Ullah Hridoy, 25. They were detained in an overnight raid after a video of the demonstration went viral on social media.

The procession took place in Nanupur on Sunday night (November 30).

According to police and local sources, the activists started the procession from Laila Kabir College Gate in Nanupur and dispersed near the Binajuri Green Tower area after only a few minutes.

Noor Ahmad, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station, confirmed the arrests, "We are trying to identify and arrest the participants in the procession by reviewing the video footage. Already, two individuals named Ershad and Hridoy have been arrested," he told The Daily Star.
