Burning bodies in Ashulia: ICT orders exhumation, handover of Abul Hossain’s remains
The International Crimes Tribunal-2 today directed relevant authorities to exhume and hand over the body of Abul Hossain, who was identified through DNA testing as one of the victims burned in front of Ashulia Police Station during last year's July uprising.
The tribunal also ordered that Abul Hossain's name be included in the government's official list of July martyrs.
The directive came after a petition filed by prosecution on behalf of his wife, Lucky Akter.
According to the petition, Abul Hossain, a resident of Cumilla's Muradnagar upazila, was shot dead on August 5, 2024 and later his body was set on fire.
His remains were later buried as an unidentified body at the Ambagan graveyard in Ashulia. After DNA tests confirmed the body was Abul Hossain's, the family appealed the tribunal for exhumation and formal recognition.
