Businessman stabbed dead over 'unpaid dues' in Lakshmipur
A businessman was stabbed to death inside his shop in Ramganj ipazila of Lakshmipur this morning, allegedly over a dispute regarding unpaid dues.
The victim was identified as Anwar Hossain, 45, from Saharpara village under Bholakot union.
The incident occurred in broad daylight in the Nagmud Bazar in the upazila. The accused, Abu Yusuf, 42, of the same village, has been absconding since the incident.
According to police and local sources, Anwar had opened his confectionery shop in the morning when Yusuf arrived on a motorcycle and engaged in an altercation with him. Yusuf then called Anwar into the inner part of the shop and stabbed him in the chest and stomach before fleeing.
Locals rescued the injured Anwar, but he died while being transported to Ramganj Upazila Health Complex, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
The victim's wife, Jannat Ara, said, "I cannot say exactly why my husband was killed. The killer has brutally murdered my husband. I demand justice."
Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Bari said that the deceased businessman was owed money by Yusuf for goods purchased on credit. "The argument started over the demand for this payment, leading to Yusuf stabbing Anwar to death and fleeing," he said.
The victim's wife filed a murder case naming Abu Yusuf as the accused on Tuesday afternoon. Police have launched an operation to arrest the accused.
