DU Islamic history dept marks 75 years

The Department of Islamic History and Culture at Dhaka University began its 75th anniversary celebration with a commemorative speech and a keynote address at the TSC Auditorium yesterday, said a press release.

Prof Syed Farid Alatas of the Sociology Department at the National University of Singapore delivered the keynote speech titled "Critic and Construction in the Decolonization of Knowledge."

Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University, presided over the event, while Central Women's University VC Prof Parveen Hasan attended as chief guest.

Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan was present as special guest.

The programme, jointly organised by the department and its Alumni Association, was inaugurated by Department Chairman Prof Md Ataur Rahman Biswas.   Alumni Association President Shabnam Shehnaz Chowdhury Deepa gave the vote of thanks, and Prof AKM Khademul Haque moderated the session.
