A state-initiated documentary paying tribute to celebrated author and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed has been released under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, marking a significant step in an ongoing effort to formally recognise Bangladesh's artistic legends. Directed by "Debi" filmmaker Anam Biswas, the 25-minute documentary revisits Humayun's life, legacy and enduring influence across literature, television and cinema.

The film was published Tuesday (November 18) evening on the official Facebook page of the Chief adviser's Office. The accompanying caption described Humayun as "not only the most popular writer in Bangladesh, but also a filmmaker, playwright and lyricist," noting that characters like Himu, Misir Ali, Rupa and Shuvro "came alive through his pen." It also stated that the documentary is part of the "Celebrating Bangladeshi Legends" series, produced by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

Earlier, nearly three months ago, Cultural Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki had expressed optimism that contemporary master artistes would soon be celebrated at the state level. He later mentioned plans to formally honour Humayun Ahmed — a promise fulfilled through this project.

Sharing the film on his own page, Farooki wrote, "Let's take a moment to celebrate the man, the myth — Humayun Ahmed."

The documentary features reflections on Humayun's writing and creative practice from legendary actor, director and painter Afzal Hossain, who is also seen reading excerpts from his works. Writer and journalist Faruk Wasif, Luna Rushdi, Parmita Him and others appear as well, sharing their memories and perspectives.
