"Omimangshito", Raihan Rafi's long-delayed web film based on the mysterious murder of a journalist couple, is finally set for release this December on OTT platform iScreen.

The film follows the story of Arnav and Niru, two journalists who are killed in their own home late one night. Who murdered them—and why—forms the central mystery of the narrative. Although filming wrapped long ago, the project remained stalled for months. Now, the wait is coming to an end, with the film scheduled to premiere on December 4, pending final clearance.

Originally set for release on February 29 last year, "Omimangshito" was halted after objections were raised by the then Bangladesh Film Censor Board. The film was later deemed "unfit for exhibition" after two rounds of review in April.

As reported earlier, the film is centred on the killing of a journalist couple—leading many to assume it was inspired by the high-profile Sagar-Runi murder case. The recently released 40-second teaser further fuelled the speculation, featuring written dialogues suggesting clues to the crime: "The murder took place sometime between 1:30am and 2am… Looks like this isn't a theft or robbery," "Journalists, neighbours, relatives—all destroyed the crime-scene evidence," "No one killed them; they killed each other," and "This is clearly an extramarital affair case…"

Following the teaser's release, the then censor board stated that despite being an OTT production, the film still required formal clearance.

After the fall of the Awami League government last year, the censor board was dissolved and replaced by the newly formed Film Certification Board. "Omimangshito", along with other stalled titles, found renewed hope. The producers submitted an appeal, after which the film finally received approval for release.

Neither the director nor the producers have confirmed whether the film is directly inspired by the Sagar-Runi murders. However, the earlier objections and lengthy delay have only heightened public curiosity.

All questions, they say, will be answered this December when "Omimangshito" finally arrives on iScreen.
