The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded immediate execution of the death sentence handed down to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, calling for her return from India "without delay", after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 delivered its verdict in a crimes against humanity case today.

The party's Dhaka Metropolitan Committee organised a rally from Bangla Motor today, where NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary thanked the judiciary for the ruling.

"Thanks to the judiciary for ensuring proper justice by announcing Sheikh Hasina's death sentence. She should now be brought back from India and the verdict should be implemented without delay," he said.

The procession moved through Shahbagh and ended back at the party office, where leaders and activists distributed sweets.

At a separate programme at the NCP office in Rupayan Trade Centre, Convener Nahid Islam described the tribunal's verdict as "historic".

"This verdict will mark a milestone in Bangladesh's history," he said.

He demanded that the execution be carried out within a month.

"We will only be satisfied when the verdict is executed, when we hear that Sheikh Hasina has been hanged. That is when the families of the July martyrs and the July fighters will find true peace," he added.

Nahid also urged her immediate return from India, saying, "We hope she will be brought back with him," referring to the interim government's Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, who is likely to visit New Delhi soon.

In a video statement, NCP Member-Secretary Akhter Hossen called the sentence "appropriate".

"Justice for the massacres and crimes against humanity committed under her command can only be ensured when the sentence is executed, not merely announced. Only then will the martyrs' souls find peace," he said.

He added that the ruling established Hasina's involvement in killings through gunfire and widespread violence.

"Today's ruling covers only a fraction of her crimes. Every remaining offence must face trial," he said, urging India to hand her over.
