VLSI training institute launched in Bangladesh
Ulkasemi VLSI Training Institute (UVTI), an initiative by Ulkasemi, a semiconductor design company, was inaugurated in Niketan, Dhaka, on November 11.
The institute aims to provide practical training in integrated circuit (IC) layout design, IC physical design, and circuit design, with future courses planned in IT and firmware. The training will be delivered by Ulkasemi's semiconductor professionals using industry-standard electronic design automation (EDA) tools to ensure participants gain real-world experience, according to the company.
At the launch event, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, emphasised academia-industry collaboration for the advancement of Bangladesh's semiconductor sector.
Mentioning that the chip industry could become part of Bangladesh's export diversification initiatives, Faiz Taiyeb said, "One of the key aims of the July Revolution was to create employment. If we can give our youth a better life and a knowledge-based society, that will be the true realisation of that revolution's vision."
According to Ulkasemi, the institute plans to train around 1,000 employees by 2026–27, and 5,000 by 2030.
