End of an era: ‘Stranger Things’ releases final season
The fifth and final season of Netflix's hit series Stranger Things released today at 7 am Bangladesh time. After waiting more than three years, viewers can finally return to the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, where Eleven and her bike-riding friends' adventures unfold.
Four episodes have been released in the first batch. The remaining three episodes will be released on December 26. The series finale episode, The Rightside Up, will air on January 1, 2026.
The fourth season ended with the revelation that Eleven essentially created the villain Vecna herself when she used her powers to send Henry Creel tumbling through dimensions. While burning en route to the Upside Down, Henry transformed into Vecna. The gang split up to bring down the villain with Eleven's friend Max briefly dying at Vecna's hands before Eleven resurrected her. However, this gave Vecna a lifeline, and the divide between the Upside Down and Hawkins was flung open, with fields of flowers wilting, clouds turning black, and bright red lightning filling the sky.
Henry Creel, also known as One or Vecna, gained supernatural powers after slipping into an alternative dimension for 12 hours. At Hawkins National Lab, Dr Brenner labeled him as his first research subject, "001". After befriending Eleven years later, she helped him recover his suppressed powers, but their subsequent battle sent him crashing into his transformation as Vecna.
Stranger Things has become one of Netflix's biggest success stories since launching in 2016. The show's fourth season alone was viewed more than 140 million times, around 1.8 billion viewing hours according to Netflix's statistics. However, in season 5, all the main cast return, joined by a few new faces, and the scale is bigger than ever. With action, emotions, and nostalgia, this final season promises a powerful goodbye.
