Popular Bangladeshi actor Ilias Kanchan, who has been undergoing treatment in London for a brain tumour, is gradually recovering and is now able to speak. After nearly six months of treatment, his condition has improved significantly.

Liton Ershad, founding member and vice chairman of the road-safety platform Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA), confirmed this to The Daily Star.

"Our beloved hero Ilias Kanchan is now about 50 percent recovered," he said. "He can speak, and he is also recognising people he knows well. Earlier, he had some difficulty speaking, but we hope this will improve gradually."

He added that a large portion of the tumour has already been removed through surgery, while doctors are attempting to neutralise the remaining part with radiation and chemotherapy.

Liton also mentioned plans for a virtual press conference with the actor in mid-December, depending on his health.

On 5 August, after three months of tests and examinations, Ilias Kanchan underwent brain surgery at Wellington Hospital in London. The veteran actor has been receiving treatment there for the past six months since being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
